CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Dancers must be the age of the class by September 15, or for shorter session classes, by the start date given in their description below.

TODDLER & PRESCHOOL

“Twistin’ Tots – Parented or Un-parented (if child is ready) (19-35 mths)– FALL SESSION (10 Weeks) (Sept 25 – Dec 4) – $155 (includes take-home prop bag – If your dancer has one from a previous session with us, the fee will be $15 less.) This 35-minute class is both for tots who want to have a grown-up with them and also for those ready to try a dance class all on their own! Little ones will boogie and dance, play with lots of different props to enhance their movements and creativity, listen to goofy songs, giggle lots, and use their imaginations while they move! If you have an older sibling who would like to join, if not in any other classes with us, it is $20 plus the cost of a prop bag. Younger siblings can join for free. Please contact us if wanting to register a sibling!

Acro (3-5 Year-olds) – Dancers in this exciting class will be introduced to techniques in balancing, stretching, rolling, and other beginner Acro movements. (Imagine beginner floor gymnastics with dance moves as well.) Classes are 45 minutes long. (offered in 2 levels – age 3/4 and age 5/6 – Early Beginner Acro)

Ballet (3-5 Year-olds) – Dancers will explore some fundamental Ballet steps through engaging music, the use of props, and a whole bunch of fun! This class is geared toward little ones who want to learn some early ballet technique while also using creative movement to explore the art of moving gracefully. Classes are 45 minutes long. (5 year-olds wanting a slightly more formal class can take “Ballet-Early Beginner”.)

Tap & Hip Hop Combination Class (3-5 yr-olds) – This 45 minute class will really get your little ones moving! They will be introduced to some cool Hip Hop moves as well as the excitement of making sounds with their feet! They will learn some beginner Tap and Hip Hop steps and have lots of fun using their feet as instruments in a class where they are encouraged to be funky and make as much noise with their feet as they can! (5 yr-olds also have the option of the “Jazz/Hip Hop-Early Beginner” class. 5 yr-olds wanting to do a slightly more formal tap class can take “Tap-Early Beginner”.)

 AGE 6 to ADULT

* Dancers must be the age noted for the class on the schedule page by September 15.
* Ages listed for each class on our registration page are approximate. Because our studio is in its 9th year, we now have several experienced dancers; therefore, dancers with less experience overall or in that specific dance style may be moved to a lower level. Please keep this in mind if your dancer is new or switching dance styles.

Acro – age 5/6+

These classes will teach dancers various acrobatic techniques, focusing on balance, flexibility, and strength. (This is sort of like floor gymnastics with more of a dance focus.) Dancers in these classes will perform in our Year-End Recital, and higher levels may also perform in festivals, dependent on if the festivals we are doing have an Acro category and if we feel the dancers are ready. As this class works on movements that require complete, independent competency in previous foundational moves that increase in difficulty, for safety reasons, a dancer may be moved to a more suitable level class. We will be holding an Acro placement day, so we can group dancers together who are most similar in their skill levels. Acro is like swimming, where a child’s safety is the top priority, and skills must be able to be consistently demonstrated safely and independently before moving on to more advanced skills. Therefore, dancers will be placed according to their ability to demonstrate prerequisite skills for each grouping and not necessarily by age. We will let you know the date for the Acro placement day by email. For safety reasons, anyone age 7+ new to Acro dance with us, must also take the 6-week, 30-minute “Intro to Acro” class.

Acro Technique – 3 options – age 7+

* The 6 week “Intro to Acro” class is mandatory for acro dancers new to our studio to learn required acro safety skills.
* After the first 6 weeks of “Intro to Acro”, dancers have the option to continue for the remainder of the year with the “Stretch and Strengthen class” to help increase their flexibility and strength and develop some acro skills, such as handstands, bridges, cartwheels, & splits. This class will be called “Intro to Acro + Acro Stretch & Strengthen“.
* Dancers who have done acro with us before can skip the 1st 6 weeks, and register for ” Acro Stretch & Strengthen“.
– THE ABOVE 3 ACRO TECHNIQUE CLASSES HAVE NO PERFORMANCES, SO THERE ARE NO COSTUME FEES.

Ballet – age 5/6+

Ballet itself is a beautiful form of dance, and it is also the foundation for all dance styles, as it helps develop core strength, build muscles, increase balance, and teach grace and body control. All regular Ballet classes include technique and choreography. (Five year-olds wanting a less formal ballet class can join our Preschool Ballet class.) Please contact us to help find the best level for your dancer. (Dancers wanting to work more on their technique beyond this class are welcome to add a Ballet Technique or Pre-Pointe class, but are not required to do so, unless doing a Ballet solo/duet. Please see the schedule on the Class Schedule -2025/26 Season tab to see the length of each class. Please also see the “Ballet Technique” and “Ballet Pre-Pointe” descriptions below.

Ballet Technique – age 6+

In this 30-minute class, dancers will work on developing ballet techniques that are the foundation of all dance styles, but are especially critical for enhancing the grace, style, and technique required not only for Ballet, but also for Lyrical dance. Dancers in Lyrical, if not in a regular Ballet class, need to register for this class. Anyone in any style of class who wants to improve, clean, and build their technique is welcome and encouraged to take this class. Dancers already in a regular Ballet class can also add this class to further build and strengthen their skills. Tech class only – no performances, no costume fees. (Dancers NOT in other classes with us are also welcome to take this class for an increased fee).

*** Dancers doing a solo/duet in any genre other than Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, or Tap must take either a Ballet Technique or a regular Ballet class, as this will help them significantly. However, the Technique class is still highly recommended even for Musical Theatre and Tap solos/duets. Dancers doing a Ballet solo/duet need to take a Ballet technique class as well as their regular Ballet class.

“Ballet – Pre-Pointe” – age 10+

In this 30-minute class, dancers will work on balance and building foot, ankle, and core strength and stability. This class is beneficial for those hoping to eventually do Pointe Ballet (right on the tips of the toes with special shoes), and for any dancer wanting to further develop strength and balance to help with all dance styles. (This class WILL count toward discounts for taking multiple classes.) Tech class only – no performances, no costume fees.

Hip Hop – age 5/6+

Get ready for some cool, funky, and stylistic moves! Classes will include technique and choreography. (45 minute classes)
** Dancers age 5/6 can take our Early Beginner Jazz & Hip Hop class – main focus will be Jazz, but some Hip Hop will be introduced as well.

Jazz – age 6+

Dancers will learn various Jazz moves, including various turns and jumps, while moving to up-beat, energizing music. Classes will include technique and choreography. Dancers age 10+, who are newer to Jazz or with little experience in other dance styles, can “Older Beginner Jazz”. Please see the schedule on the Class Schedule -2025/26 Season tab to see the length of each class.
** Dancers age 5/6 can take our Early Beginner Jazz & Hip Hop class – main focus will be Jazz, but some Hip Hop will be introduced as well.

“Jumps & Turns” – age 10+

Dancers will be introduced to more advanced jumps and turns, and they will work on improving their technique with various jumps and turns. For dancers doing Acro, Jazz, or Lyrical solos/duets, this is a great opportunity to learn and practice new, interesting steps to add to your dances! (30 minute classes) (This class counts toward multi-class discounts.) Tech class only – no performances, no costume fees.

Lyrical – age 9+

Lyrical dance focuses on combined ballet and slower jazz movements to give the “lyrics” of a song their meaning (hence “lyrical” dance). Dancers work to convey emotion and feeling through their dancing. Dancers for this discipline need to be quite focused and mature to be able to sincerely convey the message of their performance song to the audience. Ballet and/or Jazz experience will be very helpful. Anyone in this class, if not already registered for a regular Ballet class, will need to also register for and attend at least one Ballet Technique or Pre-Pointe class. The actual Lyrical class will concentrate on dance style and choreography. (Please see “Ballet Technique” description above.) Please see the schedule on the Class Schedule -2025/26 Season tab to see the length of each class.

Musical Theatre – age 7+

If you love to sing and dance and have fun learning some acting skills as well, this is the class for you! Dancers will sing their hearts out in their performance dance, moving around the stage with steps that are not too complex, but enhancing to the song. Classes will also learn various techniques through engaging drama and acting games. (45 minute classes)

Tap – age 5/6+

Tap focuses on creating incredible and exciting percussive sounds by learning steps that use different parts of the tap shoes. Classes will include technique and choreography. (5 year-olds also have the option of the Preschool Tap/Hip Hop combined class.) Dancers age 10+, who are newer to Tap can take “Older Beginner Tap”. (45 minute classes)

Adult Classes – Ballet or Tap – age 18+

These classes are meant to be a fun place where adults, whether they have danced before or not, will experience the joy of movement – no matter their age! We will work on technique and choreography and will have the option to take part in various performances; the class participants will discuss the possibilities and decide what they as a class would like to do. No one will be forced to go on stage if they choose not to! (45 minute classes)

Private Full or Partial-Year Classes – any age/number of dancers (limited to only those requesting the private class)

These can be requested, and if a time slot and teacher are available, a class may be arranged. Please note that these classes will have a higher class fee, as it is a class that will be unable to receive any extra registrations. (Private classes do not qualify for nor towards any discounts.)
